Sanguis was founded in 2004 by winemaker Matthias Pippig and Jamie, out of a converted warehouse in Santa Barbara's industrial zone. Pippig has spent more than two decades crafting the label's wines on the philosophy that character, complexity, and balance are a product of place, time, and the people involved — not a formula.
The Sanguis portfolio is built across four distinct labels: Sanguis itself, built on Rhône and Bordeaux varietals; The Missoula Flood, a line of méthode-champenoise effervescent wines; Loner, Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills; and WhaleSong, coastal high-elevation Chardonnay.
Production stays small-batch by design, with the team working directly in both the vineyards and the winery facility — a scale that keeps every release close to the two people who founded the label.
