Öömrang

Öömrang was founded in 2016 by Edmund and Christine Stoecklein on Öömrang Hüs, an 85-acre farm in Stanwood, Washington, roughly midway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. Both founders trace their family history to Germany — Christine's parents were born there, and Edmund immigrated to the United States at age seven — and the winery is named for, and built around, that heritage.

The estate sits between the Olympic Mountains and the Northern Cascades, a position that shields it from the Pacific Northwest's typical rainfall and produces a rare Washington microclimate resembling Franconia, in northern Bavaria. That microclimate is what allows Öömrang to grow German white wine varietals almost never planted commercially in the United States — Müller-Thurgau, Siegerrebe, Kerner, and Sylvaner — alongside a line of European-style eau de vie distilled from tree fruit.

The vineyard is hand-pruned each January and trained north-south for even sun exposure, farmed with organic fertilizers rather than synthetic chemicals. In 2023, Pr%f Magazine named Öömrang Hüs its Winery of the Year, with three of the six wines entered scoring a perfect 100 points.
